Under 5’10 Pace Performance Pants Review
The newest entry for the brand in the tech-ish fabric space with, as always, a focus on the shorter end of the population.
Under 5’10 Pace Performance Pants Review Introduction
Under 5'10 launched quite a few new items in 2025. It really seems like they are serious about developing their line up. Now, that might make it hard to keep up with what’s current and not, but that’s a discussion for another day. Today we’re talking performance pants.
Specifically, these are their Pace Performance Pants. Cousins to the Joggers (Pace Performance Joggers review). They’ve made a few entries into this category before, so I look at this as an evolution of that journey. They’re using a different fabric this time, and like other brands, these are kind of designed to be their do-everything performance pant.
This is my review of the Under 5'10 Pace Performance pants. I reviewed these specifically under the lens of travel, but have also been wearing them quite a bit around NYC in my day to day life. Why not, right? For travel - I took them as one of only two pairs of pants on a recent trip to France. So, daily life walking around town, planes trains and automobiles - the works. They accompanied me to a couple of very special spots.
As always for full transparency, I purchased these with my own money and this is not a sponsored article. Pace Performance Pants Overview
The Louvre, you say? Oui.
Not a crazy amount to talk about here since we’re discussing pants! But, the goal of the pants from their point of view is versatility with comfort. These are a bit more geared towards “regular pants” than the super stretch performance pants (you can read about those here in our Under 5’10 Pants Review). Daily life, golf, travel, casual bars and restaurants, backyards, walks about town, etc.
The fabric does differ and I would say it leans a bit in the direction of ABC Pants from LuluLemon. It’s slightly less structure than that, but it’s close.
This fabric is meant to be breathable, quick drying, wrinkle resistant, and contain stretch for comfort.
The fit is slim and slightly tapered, and is therefore a modern fit that should be pretty clean cut looking. More on that in a minute. It is not skinny however, so don’t worry if that’s not your thing.
Materials:
53% Elastomultiester 47% Polyester
From a feature perspective, there’s some handy stuff here. The stretch is a feature for sure. Additionally, there is a small hidden-ish zippered pocket. Not big enough for a phone, but big enough for credit cards, cash, hotel key, etc. There are also snap buttons on the back pockets for some added security but it’s more to keep things in there.
I should add that there is a gusset in the crotch, which is meant to help with mobility. This is usually a welcome feature in tech pants.
They retail for $80.00 though you can often find them on sale for around $65.00. There is a good amount of colors offered, which we love to see. Pretty much any base color for a travel capsule will be covered here. We’ve got the olive for our testing.
The Fit of the Under 5’10 Pace Pants
I was quite pleased with the fit in most cases on these pants. I had tried an earlier version and the way they draped near the ankles didn’t do it for me, but I think they might have revised a little because this pair was much improved in that way. The taper was better here, too.
So, I wore them walking all over Paris, driving around Normandy and Brittany, and on the train back to Paris. I also wore them on the planes to and from France.
Additionally, I did wear them with shoes for two nights out to eat. Nothing high end fancy, but respectable places and with a shirt and shoes, they are def passable. I think your best bet is all-white tennis shoes however if you’re looking to uplevel. They aren’t QUITE full-chino so anyone paying close attention might pick that out with real oxfords. That said, most wouldn’t notice.
Length, as always, was great since these are designed for shorter people.
If I had one nit to pick, I’d like to see a bit less room in the seat and back thighs. But, this is a common complaint of mine with pants and I think Under 5’10 tries to balance between short and slim legs and short and stockier legs. So, it’s a bit of a rope-walk to keep each set happy. I think that’s admirable and I can't knock them for that. Just a personal preference to note and if you’re pretty skinny - there might be more room than you like here.
Here you can see some examples of wearing them. The Louvre was one that was around Paris. I also had them on when I had the pleasure of visiting and paying my respects at Omaha Beach and The American Cemetery in Normandy. As a history major and someone that understands and feels the weight of those two places, that was pretty powerful for me. What a thing to experience.
The Good
Roll the macro footage.
I think they made a pair of versatile pants that look solid and are comfy to wear. That’s kind of what 85% of folks want, right? You can definitely wear these in many different settings, and I do think they’d work well for golfing, too.
There is just enough stretch to help with that comfort, but not so much that they look like athletic pants. There is no athleisure look here, which I support. The more tech pants look like pants, the better. It’s why Western Rise is so popular.
Great fit, and a great amount of colors being offered as well. I do think there is something for everyone in that department, and if you’re looking for one or two pairs for a travel capsule, they have you covered here. Even the all-black Travel Ninjas are being taken care of.
The drape on these at the ankle is pretty good too. I wouldn’t mind a BIT more structure in the fabric overall, but I think it’s still in a good spot. Any tech fabric that’s TOO LIGHT tends to kind of - let me think of an accurate way to say it - blow in the wind a bit. As you walk it flattens out and flaps around a little. You want structure and for it to stay around your ankles. Like chinos do. To me at least. These do a solid impression of that. While I wore them a lot on the go vs. having them packed a lot, I did not run into any wrinkling issues with that usage in mind.
Like most of their products, you get a really nice value to quality ratio here. It’s not quite top end tech materials, but you’re not paying top end tech material prices either. It’s a bit of an “everyperson” target. That’s a good thing, because it’s more accessible. Especially in 2025 when a lot of folks are stretched pretty thin on discretionary spending.
The Bad
Not too much to ding on but a few things to maybe improve in newer versions.
The waist seemed to lack some give. While I do not want it to be full-on stretch (i.e. that ribbon-stretch band you see on athletic pants and shorts, that should never be on real pants) - it would be great if they could somehow add some two-way stretch into the makeup of the waist. I believe that’s a little harder to do and keep it a straight look, but something to think about.
The waist did feel a little slimmer than on their chinos, so maybe take a look at sizing consistency.
From a travel perspective, I’d like to see one back pocket with a zipper. Having that for your wallet or passport is always a good travel-specific feature. Typically something I consider a requirement for the category.
This isn’t a full-on necessity, but if they can go one step further on the fabric and add a LITTLE more structure to it while maintaining solid stretch, I think these would be even better from the drape perspective. This wasn’t a failure or anything, as noted I was fine with it. Just making a wish list here though!
Final Thoughts On My Under 5’10 Pace Performance Pants Review
So the newest addition to the Pace line should be a hit among Under 5’10 fans, I think. They are close to a Lululemon ABC pant in terms of drape and feel, and nearly half the price. Not to mention the obvious fact that they are designed from the ground up for shorter people. So that just gives you so many more options to mix and match based on our specific body types. It’s not just hemming to fit us but the rest of the patterns get messed up once we do that. It’s all taken into account in the design. That is HUGE HUGE HUGE when buying clothing - you want it made for YOU. Great stuff as usual here.
Omaha Beach landing site. Amazing.
These aren't going to pass for formal chinos, but there are very few tech pants that will. Just go in with proper ideas. You’ll be able to wear these in 80% of scenarios and look totally fine, which is a great spot to be. They look great with sneakers, tennis shoes, and totally OK with proper shoes, too, up to a point. Any shoes that are TOO dressy and you’re going to push these a little too much. Being fair to the brand - they aren’t marketing them for that. I’m just setting your expectations here.
They’ve been a great addition to my wardrobe and I do find myself reaching for them a lot, and in a lot of situations. If you’re shorter, and trying to find these kinds of pants for you day to day or like me, for travel - pick a pair up and find your size to give them a go. They can help you pack less and as we say around here - wander smarter.
You can only get them direct, so head on over and check them out and see if they are right for you, too.
Wander more - and wander smarter everyone.
